Opportunity - Nairobi Art Academy

Nairobi Art Academy Program
Nairobi Art Academy (NACAD) is situated on Kabarnet Road (off Ngong Road), opposite the Sudan Embassy. The Centre offers a unique range of programs to students, designed to develop their skills as artists/designers in a challenging atmosphere of contemporary practice. Each program brings technical expertise together with critical and conceptual content so that student practitioners develop their own work at the cutting edge of their chosen field.
NACAD prides itself on its commitment to developing the skills and abilities of student artists and designers within a context of creative and intellectual independence for preparation in playing an active role in the arts and creative industries of the 21st Century. We foster a range of programs at all levels and encourage our students to understand themselves as part of a truly global art and design culture.
The one year diagnostic course is aimed primarily at students who have completed high school or equivalent and want to target a career in art and design. The foundation program divides into 3 stages.
Stage 1: Exploratory
Students explore a wide range of materials and media and new ways of thinking. They learn the language necessary to explore all areas of art and design to discover the variety of specialist areas available. They will extend and improve drawing skills that underpin the program and are particularly important at this stage.
Stage 2: Pathway
This stage allows the students more freedom to discover and pursue personal strengths and interest within the framework of the course. It allows an increasing move towards the chosen career.
Stage 3: Confirmatory
At this stage the students are encouraged to demonstrate their personal direction, skills and experience by means of a self directed major project, presentation and an open exhibition of their work where they earn attractive commissions on any sales.
